About Us

Although the buzz surrounding Stingball® and the World Stingball Association (UK) ("WSAUK") is fairly new, like many great games it has its roots embedded in the eighties (see History) – but this time it started in a school yard. We intend to support all classes and categories of people to get involved with Stingball® - children from as young as six years old ("Little Stingers"), teenagers and young adults ("Stinger Teens"), as well as the more mature are all being encouraged to find their own way to an active lifestyle, whilst being empowered to make healthier, more positive lifestyle choices through Stingball®

The founder-members of Stingball® and the WSAUK (the UK governing body and not-for-profit organisation charged with introducing the sport throughout the land) hail from Nottingham, Warrington and Cardiff in the United Kingdom and they have vowed to promote this fast, all-action and addictive way to burn calories and have fun, to as many areas as possible!

     Emlyn Mousley; Founder & Director – as a family man and the original founder of the new sport of Stingball, I’ve had an interesting life so far!

The idea for Stingball came from playing a variation of this exciting ball-game in our school play-ground as I was growing up in Burton-upon-Trent in the eighties. In those early days, the game was addictive and full of fun – so much so that about 30 or 40 children would regularly come into school early, and stay late, just to play this game! It was fast-moving and fun, two key attributes to any sport, and I knew one day that it could develop into a worldwide success! Upon leaving school, I trained and qualified as a coded welder, managed a PAPNET smear test sales team and trained as a numismatic portfolio specialist working in Hong Kong; later in life I developed properties for clients and moved into merchant banking and commodities, sitting on the boards of several companies in various key roles. I have been very lucky and travelled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and North America and, as a result, consider myself to be well versed in people skills with a well-balanced, honest and fair attitude to other people and to life as a whole.

During mid-2014 I decided to share my dream for this new sport with business contacts Phil Smith and Matthew Shaw, asking them to take a look and see if, together, we could make something of this exciting new sport. We organised our first match, at Nottingham University, with friends, family members and work colleagues all coming along to try it out – and what fun we had! From that day on, we set about working on the rules, regulations and a structure – ultimately developing a format and a website where we could attract members who wanted to join us from anywhere in the world, to play the sport of Stingball.

     Phil Smith; Co-Founder & Chairman of Trustees - Born and bred in Cambridge, England, the son of a gipsy father and aristocratic mother (the ultimate rags to riches love affair) I completed a formal education and moved into business – first, to work in my father’s haulage and removals business but then to find my own feet in the corporate world. I worked for such corporate giants as the Prudential Assurance Company, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co and the Huntsman Corporation; from sales agent to regional manager, UK sales manager, European General Manager and, ultimately as European Managing Director, living and working in Germany for 5 years. It was at this time that I was elected to the position of Chairman of the European PVC Film Manufacturing Association (EPFMA) and then re-elected for a second term. The experience of running large organisations and chairing key associations will, I feel sure, have helped me to develop into the individual I am today, able to play a worthwhile role in the development, formation and running of this organisation.

After returning to England, I lived first in Surrey and then moved northwards, to Cheshire, where I still live today. Here, I became Chief Executive of an OFEX-listed company and led it to a listing on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange (AIM) raising circa £5million in the process, so I understand about funding and financing. Over the past few years I decided that big is not necessarily beautiful, especially in the corporate world, so I set up a management consulting business and, about six or seven years ago, was introduced to Emlyn Mousley, the brains and ideas man behind this journey we are embarking upon. I now sit on the board of trustees of two not-for-profit organisations, The World Stingball Association being one.

     Matt Shaw; Co-Founder & Safeguarding Officer  - Matt is a professional Foreign Exchange trader and Investment Manager, a qualified fitness instructor and a family man based in South Wales. He regularly contributes written articles for various investment publications, such as the FT’s Investors Chronicle and

Since leaving full-time education over 15 years ago, Matt has managed to refrain from the 9-5.00pm way of life. He has run several businesses and now works to help others achieve success in trading the foreign exchange markets, whilst providing the platform for which they can be helped to achieve that one goal – that is leaving the rat race behind. Matt was one of the UK’s leading Binary options traders through 2005-2010 and was Managing Editor of the biggest selling newsletter with the Fleet Street Publications - Soapbox Newsletter.

Matt has developed his own private and exclusive FX software, which enables professional traders to scalp the markets and make a profit outside of the London cauldron. Since settling back in Wales full-time in the last 18 months, Matt has also set about raising money for his favourite charity ‘Ty Hafan’ through various gruelling, yet ‘fun’, expeditions. These include organising trips to Peru for people wanting to outsource other means of medical treatment for serious health conditions.

Matt’s humanitarian passions (alongside trading) include helping disadvantaged people and animals. A keen lover of animals, Matt works to support rescue and rehabilitation for horses and dogs at and; Matt also helps young people through the work of;

We have a Little Stingers section, where children from six to twelve can start to play the game with a softer ball; also a Stinger Teens section, with a firmer, mid-range ball allowing faster action where teenagers can get involved! From 18+ there's an Adult Section and for fun-filled times with your family, we even organise Family Fun Sessions to order! We are passionate about this new sport and passionate about the safety and wellbeing of our coaching staff and players alike - hence you can review a copy of our Risk Assessment Form should you wish.

Why not sign up and get your own team together in any one of the sections mentioned above – of friends, work-mates, or colleagues at a club or pub? Just get off the couch and come to the nearest venue (see Bookings tab online) or, if you are already a member of a team (be it soccer, cricket, five-a-side, badminton, darts, fitness, Zumba or even swimming, for example) get together with your team-mates and play Stingball® once or twice a week to hone your skills and keep you nimble on your toes and as agile as a ninja!

Opportunities to become a Stingball® coach or volunteer are now available - which could lead to the possibility of building a business around a Stingball® franchise.

The Stingball® family has been working hard to create this interactive website so that we can invite you to attend your first FREE games once you have signed up for FREE MEMBERSHIP! This will allow you and your friends or colleagues to try the game with no obligation – of course, we believe you will find it so much fun and so enjoyable that you’ll be upgrading to a Player Member in no time at all, as this new sport is truly addictive.

If you are the sort of person who can influence others in a positive manner (a supervisor, a teacher, a fitness coach, a leader or a trainer, for example) then you might like to take on the challenge of becoming a Stingball® coach – earning money whilst having fun and keeping fit. Just click BECOME A COACH or OWN A FRANCHISE.

Any way you like, we welcome you to join the Stingball® family and hope you enjoy taking a good look around this website, learning the rules, watching the videos and sharing some of the good stuff on your facebook page. And maybe pop across to our Facebook page at where you can LIKE and SHARE our page with your friends, add your comments and stay in touch.
